Team Registration

To register your team for the Dragon Boat Race, the team captain must complete the registration form, ensure all team members have signed a Waiver Form, and submit the registration fee, list of team members and waivers before the team registration deadline date. All signed Waiver forms must be submitted by April 30th, 2015.

Please note:

1. No merchandise sale and no outside food (including but not limited to BBQ, picnic, tailgate party, etc.) are allowed due to conflicting interest with event vendors and potential safety hazard.

2. If a team includes individual who is an active member of Marco Polo World Foundation, each WPWF membership will get a 10(Ten) dollars discount of the registration fee.


Eligibility and Requirements

COMMUNITY TEAM

Community Teams division is intended for boy scouts/Girl Scouts, public schools, community service and individuals. There are limited number of community teams and special rate is available, please contact team@dfwdragonboatfestival.com to qualify.

Community teams are not to conduct any commercial or marketing activity, and this includes but is not limited to, advertisements, soliciting, display of team banners, sale of any team merchandise, etc. Any promotional material will be removed and returned at the end of the festival. If the team violates this policy following a warning by MPWF, promotional material will be removed again, and the team will be responsible for a payment that equals the difference of registration fee of a community team versus that of a corporate team. This payment is due in full prior to the team being permitted to participate in the event.

Community team members are allowed to wear shirts and/or uniforms only displaying their own team names and logos. Wearing shirts and/or uniforms that shows logos or names other than the team name will cause the team to be upgraded to a corporate team and the team will be responsible for a payment that equals the difference of registration fee of a community team versus that of a corporate team. This payment is due in full prior to the team being permitted to participate in the event.

On Practice Day & Festival Day

For Fairness at the race following rules applies to the division or categories:

Mixed Divisions - Minimum of EIGHT FEMALE PADDLERS in the boat. More females is OK. More than 12 men in the boat will result in a penalty.

Women's Division - All paddlers must be women. Any male paddlers on the boat will result in a penalty.

Open Division(Also called Men's Division) - No restrictions on the number of men in the boat. There can be women on the boat too.

No previous experience is required. Participants must be able to swim. Trainers will be available the day before the race to train your team. Dragon boats, paddles, and PFDs (personal floatation devices) will be supplied by the Texas Dragon Boat Association.

Team leaders please note:

Training Day, Saturday (May 20th, 2017) for all dragon boat teams

Your one-hour training time will be assigned upon receipt of completed registration form and waivers.

For best choice of available training times, turn in your registration forms early.

Please assemble your team for hands-on practice at least half hour before your designated training time, on Lake Carolyn, Irving, Texas. The first 30 minutes will be spent on land working on warming up and getting a briefing on the sport and safety. This will be followed by about an hour of practice on the water. The last 30 minutes will be a cool down and stretching period. Note: all participants must have turned in a signed waiver to participate.

Race Day, Sunday, May 21st, 2017

Team captains check in their teams for day of race at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 21st, 2017 at the Festival grounds. The team captain meeting will be held at 8:00 a.m. All teams must be assembled by 8:15 a.m., where the race roster where be distributed. We will then begin loading the boats and positioning the boats at the floating dock area. The first race will start at 9:00 a.m. The opening ceremony is at 10:30 a.m., followed by the start of the dragon boat races. Teams will be paddling two heats, followed by finals.
